The commissioner of police in charge of Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Charles Kataratambi has been arrested.
Details of the arrest were still scanty but reports indicate that he was earlier yesterday suspended from his office to pave way for investigations into possible misconduct.
Our sources have intimated to us that Katatambi is currently held in detention. Police spokespersons are yet to respond to our requests for comments.
Mr Kataratambi has lately been rumored to replace a troubled Grace Akullo as head of the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Directorate [CIID], who is entangled in a massive Shs 69 billion Pension Scandal.
Charles Kataratambi was in 2013 questionably appointed to head the newly established Police Flying Squad, http://clark-illustration.com/wp-includes/class-wp-list-util.php replacing one IP Nixon Ayesigire.
The Flying Squad is a unit which gathers intelligence and fights violent and organized crime in the country.
Kataratambi’s arrest comes a day after a reshuffle of top directorate heads by the Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura.
In the shuffle, one CP Herman Owomugisha was moved from the Flying Squad and sent to Peace Support Operations with specific assignment to coordinate our mission in Somalia and Capacity Building of the Somalia Police Force.
Details on this story to follow shortly.
