Police this afternoon deployed heavily and blocked FDC’s Col Dr Kizza Besigye from holding a rally in Kyankwanzi Town in Central Uganda.
The police accused him of not seeking permission for the rally.
He was however stopped by police at Bugomolwa village by waiting police trucks and heavily armed officers.
According to witnesses, cheapest there was a two hour standoff between Besigye and the police but the latter stood their ground.
Amid the standoff, residents started gathering and formed a huge crown which Besigye addressed instead.
Some of the people went on to hand gifts to the four time presidential candidate.
From here, he branched off to Ntwentwe trading centre where he also addressed hundreds of supporters.
Police in Kampala condemned Besigye’s continued disregard of the law in his ongoing activities.
The police spokesperson AIGP Asan Kasingye said Besigye’s meetings were contravention of Sec 5 of the Public Order Management Act.
Kasingye says the IGP Gen Kale Kayihura four days ago, on May 1st wrote to DR Besigye and his team, about his illegal meetings, which they apparently ignored.
