Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has expressed concern over the recent incident in which the State Minister for Water Resources Hon. Ronald Kibuule reportedly punched a female security guard at the Stanbic Bank Mukono branch.

It is alleged that the Minister who had visited the bank on Friday last week to carry out a transaction refused to undergo a security check conducted by a female guard, Hellen Obuku and instead requested to be checked by a male guard.

In a police statement shortly after the scenario, Obuku said that when she insisted on checking Hon. Kibuule as is required of every customer accessing the bank, the Minister punched her in the chest which the Minister has since denied.

The Prime Minister on Thursday morning took to twitter to condemn the alleged conduct saying investigations were being carried out and action would be taken upon establishing what exactly transpired.

“Government is concerned about the reported incident involving Hon. Kibuule. The matter is being investigated and action will depend on the results,” Dr. Rugunda said in a tweet.

“We would like not only Ugandans but everybody to be treated properly and with respect. As leaders, we must provid good examples to those we lead,” he added.

In reaction to the same incident, former Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Minister Eng. John Nasasira on Monday also commented on his twitter; “Security guards do a noble vocation and as such, nobody should look down upon them. We must at all times exercise respect & humility.”

This spirit expressed by the PM and Nasasira will restore dignity to Ugandans and faith in the system.
