According to the reputed Alexa Internet, Inc. an independent California-based company that provides commercial web traffic data and analytics, ChimpReports is the 6th most visited website in Uganda.
Alexa’s toolbar collects data on browsing behaviour and transmits them to the Alexa website, where they are stored and analyzed, forming the basis for the company’s web traffic reporting.
Alexa provides traffic data, global rankings and other information on 30 million websites, and as of 2015 its website is visited by over 6.5 million people monthly. It also acts as a guide for potential online advertisers.
The Daily Monitor newspaper’s website has retained its first position for many years.
New Vision’s website takes the second place while entertainment websites Big Eye and Howwe.biz occupy the third and fourth positions respectively followed by Red Pepper and then ChimpReports.
“An incisive analysis will show you ChimpReports is the most widely read news website in the country. Websites of established newspapers – Daily Monitor and New Vision are in the lead with entertainment websites following closely in traffic rankings. But for news reports, ChimpReports is number one,” said our 28-year-old Managing Editor, Giles Muhame.
Monitor was established in 1994, New Vision (1986) and Red Pepper (2001).
Muhame added: “Here we spot, develop and promote talent. We invest in good journalism. ChimpReports is a source of employment for many young people who continue to rise and shine in their profession.”
According to Google Analytics, ChimpReports has an average readership of about 650,000 (consistent) readers per month thus translating into 21,000 readers per day.
The website also boasts of 20 million page views (instances of an Internet user visiting a particular page on a website) per month. This implies that 666,666 pages are viewed or clicked on the site every day.
The number of times (hits) viewers click on ChimpReports website now stand at 44 million per month.
This impressive traffic has since the last four years pulled about 56 advertisers to market their products/brands/businesses and spread awareness campaigns on the website.
Each advert placed on ChimpReports is viewed by almost one million people per month, according to Google Analytics.
In some instances, the advert is posted not only on the homepage of the website but also in the middle of the story text, giving the advertiser value for money.
With a niche for politics and exclusive intelligence and security stories, ChimpReports has gone ahead to introduce sections for popular sport, business, extractives and human interest stories.
The Chimp Media recently rolled out ChimpLyf, a fashionable section for entertainment enthusiasts – specialising in celebrity news, music events, fashion, award-winning photography and celebrity interviews.
“By close of this year, we hope to be the best of the best, not only in Uganda but Great Lakes region,” assured Muhame.
ChimpReports intends to boost coverage for important events in Rwanda, South Sudan, Burundi, Kenya and DRC.

Eyewitnesses say they saw a piglet emerging from a box dumped near All Saints Church Nakasero which neighbours the president’s residence.
The head-of-state’s residence is tightly guarded by an elite military force.
Officials said the suspects could have decided to choose the vicinity of the State Lodge’s eastern wing as its frequented by church-goers.

This is not the first time the piglets are dropped in Kampala.

They claimed such acts were part of a defiance campaign against President Museveni’s government which they said had failed to create jobs for them.
Kampala Central Police Station DPC Aaron Baguma led cops who took away the piglet to an unknown destination. Baguma refused to talk to the press about the incident.
