A total of 29 officers of the 300 UPDF soldiers who were recently promoted have been decorated at a function held at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Mbuya.

Speaking at the function, the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. David Muhoozi urged the promoted officers to work hard and live to the expectations of their superiors.

“We expect more from you .We trust you will stand as tall as your new ranks, “Gen. Muhoozi said.

The Chief of Defence Forces in UPDF explained that the army considered many things including training courses, age, discipline and gender among other qualities before promotion the officers.

He noted that this process of promotion and professionalizing the army will take a slow process but will continue.

Maj. Gen. John Mugume, the highest ranking of the promoted officers applauded President Museveni and the UPDF leadership for recognizing their service to the country.

“I have gone through the various stages since the days of National Resistance Army to the current UPDF and when one talks of professionalizing the army, I have perfected and improved in every aspect,” Maj. Gen. Mugume said.
