Accompanied by top FDC leaders including MP Kaps Fungaroo, Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu and MP Christine Abia, the FDC presidential candidate made a heroic entry into Arua – paralysing business in the town.
Women, men, the elderly and kids all walked long distances to listen to the FDC strongman at Boma grounds.
Observers say this could be Besigye’s biggest rally after the nomination procession in Kampala last month.
Addressing the gathering, Besigye accused president Museveni of presiding over the death of railway systems in Uganda.
“When Museveni took power in 1986, there was a train that would take people from Mombasa to Pakwach. But after 30 years of what he calls steady progress, that train service is no longer there,” charged Besigye as people cheered him on.
Besigye promised to intensify the fight against corruption, rebuild railway infrastructure and improve household income.
He said power which is the hands of well armed elite will be returned to citizens after winning the 2016 presidential elections.
Earlier reports indicated that some people intended to disrupt Dr Besigye’s rallies, stoking tensions in the FDC camp.
But the function ended without any major incident.
