“Unfortunately, only dead bodies of the three men were found by the Divers at the bottom of the lake.”

The incident took place in Rubavu District, Nyamyumba Sector, Kiraga Cell.

Violent winds have in many cases caused boat accidents on Lake Kivu, killing scores.

People in the neighbouring areas rely on the many waterways for transport. Boats are usually overcrowded with passengers lacking safety wear.

RDF said the bodies were brought back ashore and handed over to National Police for proper identification and post-mortem examination process, before funeral arrangements by the respective families.
