A Burundian pastor attached to Communal Pentecostal Church in Kampala is being held at Mbarara Central Police Station over allegations of attempting to murder his wife.
Pastor Maximamu Baliika from Burundi is alleged to have stabbed his Ugandan wife, Shana Atuhaire with a sharp knife at Tataitwe, Mbarara, leaving her with serious injuries.
Baliika accused the wife of committing adultery with a man she had earlier claimed was her uncle.
After the arrest, the pastor who admitted to having stabbed Atuhaire, said that neighbors had told him several times about an affair his wife was having with another man but that he had dismissed the talk as rumors until he found her with the man in his home after returning from an evangelical mission.
Pastor Baliika asked Police to forgive him saying that he had acted out of anger.
However, Mbarara Police Station OC, Jaffar Magyezi stressed that the accused was to be taken to court and be charged with attempted murder to serve as an example to others.
Magyezi further advised men to resolve their family issues with the Police or Courts of Laws instead of beating their women which contravenes the law.
Atuhaire is now admitted at Mbarara Referral Hospital in a critical condition.
