Parliament yesterday paid tribute to the fallen Rotary International President-elect, Sam Owori who passed on July 13 due to complications from surgery.
The motion to pay tribute to late Sam Owori was moved by the Prime Minister Dr.Ruhakana Rugunda and seconded by the deputy leader of the opposition Roland Mugume Kaginda and the Dean of the independent Members of Parliament Andrew Baryayanga.
The Prime Minister Rugunda described late Owori as an accomplished gentleman with integrity who worked for championing the cause of the less privileged.
“The late has been a true champion of the rotary causes of promoting peace, fighting disease, fighting for provision of clean water and supporting education and supporting the cause of saving the lives of mothers,” Rugunda eulogized.
The Minister of State for Works who is also the UPDF representative in Parliament, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala remembered the late as a person of a strong character which earned him a special class worldwide.
He asked Ugandans to emulate the late by driving rotary to levels of his dream through recruitment of youths and women.
The Minister of State for Health in charge of General duties who is also the MP for Tororo district Sarah Opendi, said that the late will be missed for his contribution for the survival of the Rotary activities in Uganda during the former president Idi Amin Dada’s regime where by some rotary clubs were closed because government was suspicious of their activities.
Sam’s term as Rotary’s 108th president would have begun on 1 July 2018.
On Thursday 27th July there will be Church Service at All Saints Nakasero starting 9am, and thereafter the body leaves for Tororo.
Friday 28th July -there will be a Vigil at Late Owori’s home in Tororo and burial will take place at Kidera village , Tororo district on Saturday.
