The Operation Creation officials in Kabale district yesterday implicated local nursery bed operators in attempting to steal from the program by inflating their supplied tea seedlings.

The accusations were raised in an impromptu meeting between OWC officials, the seedling suppliers, the Kabale RDC and other district officials at the district headquarters.

Lt. Col. Charles Tebarura, the OWC coordinator for Kabale revealed in the meeting that in the report submitted by nursery operators claiming payments for the September-November 2016 supplies, they indicated wrongly that they supplied 21,666,803 seedlings.

He says however, that when they went to farmers to verify the claimed supplies they found that only 9,220,468seedlings were supplied.

Phillip Zikampereza, the Kabale district tea nursery operators chairman dismissed the Colonel’s claims saying their report only had estimates and not verified number of seedlings.

The Kabale RDC Darius Nandinda expressed disappointment over sub county chiefs and extension workers who signed the reports without verifying the actual number of tea seedlings supplied, and ordered that all these should be investigated.
