Otunnu Seeks Medical Attention in UK

A total of six players have been lined up for national debut ahead of the Women’s All Africa Games Qualifiers scheduled to start this Tuesday.

All the new players included in the squad have competed at continental stages for their clubs prior to the call up.

The reigning NSSF Volleyball League MVP and VVC’s star Peace Busingye, look nurse Joan Nabuuto, there Winnie Nakabuubi, Adella Asimiire, Zaina Kagoya, and Margaret Namyalo are the players expected to make their debut for the Lady Cranes.

The assistant Coach Godwin Ssenyondo believes the debutant players will deliver for the team.

Talking to the federation media, he said, “They are a crop of talented and young players and that makes them a very good addition to the squad”.

The technical team also appointed receive attacker Josephine to skipper the team in this campaign.

She assumes the role from Christine Alupo who is ruled out due to a knee injury she picked at training and will be assisted by Astreede Agaba.

The rest of the squad members include; Astreede Agaaba, Saidat Nnungi, Gloria Nantege, Maureen Mwamula and Flavia Nandawula.


Bart Mutings is head coach taking over from his former head, Tonny Lakony who is in Germany for a High Performance Course.

Ssenyondo will deputise him while Ndejje’s Coach, Johnson Kawenyera will be the trainer and Mary Florence Nanyondo as the team manager in the duration of the tourney.

The team will enter the Games Village on Monday evening.
Uganda People’s congress (UPC) Party President Ambassador Olara Otunnu today did not turn up at the Buganda Road Court for the hearing of the case where he is accused of making defamatory statements against President Yoweri Museveni.

The defense Counsel Haji Asuman Basalirwa informed court on Monday that his client is not in the country at the moment thereby seeking for an adjournment.

“My lord we seek for an adjournment because accused in this matter Dr Olara otunnu is in the UK where he went for medical checkup” remarked Basalirwa.

The adjournment was upheld by the state prosecutor Nambajjoo Imaculate and thus the grade one magistrate Joan Aciro pushed the case to 26th May for further hearing.

Prosecution alleges that on 16th January 2013 during his weekly news conference at Uganda House in Kampala, treat Otunnu attacked president Museveni’s regime referring to it as one full of political assassinations
