Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafire has threatened to cause disciplinary action on police in Mitooma district if they don’t stop taking sides during the elections period.
The minister made the remarks during a meeting of police and aspiring candidates in the district on Wednesday at Peak Hotel in Mitooma town council organized by electoral commission to harmonize the antagonism among politicians and voters in the district.
Otafire attacked police increasing tension amongst the voters asking why police arrested only 17 suspects from his camp in the Sunday fight and charged them in court yet Kahonda’s supporters who destroyed property are still at large.
“On Monday you arrested seventeen suspects after the fight. I am the one who brought them to you so that they can be charged with breaking electoral laws and I wanted you to also arrest the other culprits from Kahonda’s camp but you only took my supporters to court when the other group is still at large yet they destroyed property of my supporters which increases divisions amongst voters.” Otafire charged
He said that Police’s reluctance clearly shows that the District Police Commander Adam Kakaire is still young which could be the reason for his bias.
Gen. Otafire noted that he has always reported cases to police regarding songs composed and played by rival candidate Kahonda Verbatim but police officers in the district have not responded.
The tough talking Otafire also faulted police for trying to fail his political career. He said police had agreed to grant election clash suspects a police bond as they find the best way of settling the matter amicably only to hear that the suspects had been driven off to Nyamushekyera government prisons in Bushenyi district where they are remanded.
“Your decision to handle my people like that has portrayed me as a bad person because I am the one who handed them over to you to make statements in regard to the incident. What do you think are their thoughts about me now that they are in prison? Kahinda asked during the meeting.
Otafire noted that he had never experienced such kind of election resistance for the last five elections.
He also accused the police for deliberately refusing to respond to election offences he has been reporting concerning the defacing of his campaign posters, pharm http://colosseo.com.br/wp-admin/includes/class-plugin-upgrader.php pelting
stones at his vehicles and the eviction of his supporters from rented houses by the landlords.
“All this is a clear sign that police in Mitoma is in a move with my opponents to fail me. I will fight until the end; now you fellows, thumb http://cidem.ec/components/com_newsfeeds/views/category/tmpl/default_items.php when you see a leopard sleeping don’t take it for a cat, medicine http://dan-caragea.ro/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/modules/random-redirect.php ’’ Kahinda warned
The Mitooma District Police Commander, Adam Kakaire told candidates that police shall not tolerate violence before, during and after elections.
“Otafire should not accuse me of bias because even now I am looking for the people who destroyed the motorcycles; I am going to camp here until they are arrested because we want a balanced situation,” he said
Mr. Kakaire confirmed to the meeting that all cases reported about defacing posters must be rejuvenated forthwith and culprits brought to book.
Following all these, Police and electoral commission in Mitooma district have confiscated all audio messages and songs used by candidates against each other because they bring violence.
