National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has launched a campaign targeted at educating its members and Ugandans on the importance of adopting a saving culture and utilizing their benefits effectively. The campaign dubbed ‘Friends with Benefits’ is part of a series of activities marking the Fund’s thirty years of existance.
While addressing a news conference at the NSSF Headquarters on Monday, ed http://codapostproduction.com/wp/wp-includes/class-wp-customize-widgets.php the Managing Director Richard Byarugaba said that previous beneficiaries of NSSF will be required to share their success stories
with Uganda so as to inspire them to emulate the habit of saving.
“NSSF has paid Ugshs 1.1 trillion to 2, http://ccalliance.org/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/sync/class.jetpack-sync-users.php 5000 members in benefits over the last 30 years. In the next four weeks, we shall invite submissions of short stories about how people have benefitted from their NSSF savings. Many people remain ignorant about the importance of savings and we hope they will draw lessons from these stories,” he said.
Beneficiaries will be required to submit a short story of less than 100 words by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or a handwritten copy to their offices not later than June 7. A panel of judges will then choose the best 20 stories which will then be presented to the public by the beneficiary in a televised show.
The public will then vote for the top three stories. NSSF is offering a prize of 30M for the most inspiring story while the 2nd and 3rd best stories shall win 15M and 10M respectively.
“We discovered that 80 percent of employed Ugandans have only NSSF as their saving channel while 90 percent of people who receive their NSSF benefits waste them in only 2 years. This campaign also serves to encourage the young people to adapt the habit of saving.”
Byarugaba added that saving is critical if Uganda is to depart from the increasing dependency on foreign loans which he says is dangerous.
