National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi has condemned the election violence that has lately been reported in the Kyadondo East by-elections.
Addressing the media at the party headquarters in Kampala, Tanga condemned the acts of violence and lawlessness and called upon all candidates to prevail over their supporters to ensure a peaceful election exercise.
Tanga said that following the successful re-election of the NRM candidate, Joakino Etuuka in the Upper Madi County by-elections, the commission will join the party Secretary General, Justine Lumumba to canvas for support for the party candidate in Kyadondo, Sitenda Ssebalu.
“Sitenda is already at the door way of Parliament; the Secretary General, the Treasurer and her team have been doing a good job campaigning for the candidate, we are also joining in.”
Odoi said however, that Opposition FDC candidate Apollo Katinti who is trying to defend the seat, is no longer a threat in the race, but rather independent candidate Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.
“Bobi Wine is my good student but this time round we are mindful of party issues; his mistake was coming into the race on a wrong ticket,” Tanga said.
Tanga noted that despite Bobi Wine being his friend, he would work against him and that they would become friends after the polls.
“We have come from Arua with victory and new skills of winning; our only threat in Kyadondo East by-elections in Bobi Wine and not Kantinti,” Tanga observed.
The electorate in Kyadondo East will go to polls on Thursday 29, 2017 to choose their candidate who will represent them in the 10th Parliament.
The seat fellow vacant after Court found that in declaring the FDC flag bearer Apollo Kantinti, some results from the different polling Stations were left out.
