NRM Commissioners Disorganized Party Primaries – Tanga Admits

The British high commissioner to Uganda, Alison Blackburne, on Monday handed over an assortment of IED Kits to the State Minister for Transport, Stephen Chebrot, at a ceremony that was held at the Protea Hotel Entebbe.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Blackburne said, “Aviation security is another vital element in protecting all our citizens from acts of terrorism. Security is a priority for us all, so I am delighted that the UK Government continues to work closely with UCAA, in order to further strengthen the existing aviation security regime in Uganda.”

The British High commissioner, who also opened a five day UK Security supervisors training course that concluded on Friday revealed that the IED Kits have been made by the UK military experts especially with aviation in mind.

“The IED Kits will assist to broaden aviation security detection capability at Entebbe Airport. In addition to the equipment the UK Government will offer various levels of aviation security training courses to CAA on; Explosive trace detection machines, X-ray screening, physical search of baggage and people, aviation security supervisors skills and on the job mentoring at Entebbe Airport for local inspectors,” she stressed.

On his part Minister Chebrot urged all stakeholders operating at Entebbe International Airport to continuously identify the gaps in security to counter terrorist threats.

He applauded the UK government for providing the IED equipments.

“This is a timely intervention and I would like to urge all stakeholders operating at Entebbe Airport to always be vigilant and identify security gaps in order to provide the safest air travel to passengers,” he said

CAA Executive Director, Ramah Makuza appealed to all users of the Airport to be security conscious and always report any suspicious person or item to the police and other security agencies.

“Some of the petitions that have been handled by EC are those where members were complaining about the conduct of our district registrars and the way elections were conducted,” Tanga said.

“We want to state that most of our election officials were under fear and intimidated to announce the so called big wigs as losers hence altering results. There are many results that we called for a recount and we found out that those that were announced second turned out to be the real winners and in this case we have ensured that true winners shall be given the party flag in to represent the party in the national elections,” Tanga observed.

Tanga at this point warned party members and candidates against impostors, impersonators and con men who pretend to be doing work (such as handling petitions) on behalf of the NRM EC.

“These impersonators have gone head to ask money from candidates so as to declare them winners; please note that the commission is not charging fees to execute its mandate. The public is called upon to notify the commission about such people so that they may be brought to book.”

He further revealed that the party has commenced conducting residual elections for those election areas that for one reason or another did not participate in the election of the recently concluded party primaries for the positions of District Woman MP, Constituency MP, LC V Chairperson and Lord Mayor.

The party has also commenced endorsement of party flag bearers for nominations by the National Electoral Commission for which Local Government Council Elections will be held from Monday 16th November to Friday 20th and MPs from Wednesday 2nd to Thursday 3rd December, 2015.
