Police in Kampala have arrested a notorious ATM fraudster who has been tricking people at ATM machines and robbing them of their money.
The suspect has been identified as; Jean Adams alias Baguma, pilule http://chienyenthinh.com/modules/mod_jaslideshow/tmpl/default_articles.php 35, http://debbiehowes.com/wp-content/plugins/ecwid-shopping-cart/lib/ecwid_catalog.php an artist by profession, hailing from Lukuli Nanganda in Makindye Division, Kampala.
Apparently, Baguma was moving with faulty ATM cards and offering help to whoever he found fidgeting at the ATMs.
He would then swap his victim’s card with his faulty one so that it (Faulty card) is captured by the machine and he remains with the genuine one.
One victim, Fatuma Babirye,52 said that on the 12th of November 2014, at 8:00pm, while in the company of his son, Haruna, she went to Stanbic Bank, Nakivubo branch and tried to withdraw money but failed.
She adds that Baguma approached them and asked to help. He left with their genuine card and his fake one got captured by the machine in the due process but without them noticing.
Evidence from the bank systems show that when they left, he withdrew shs 200,000 and later 290,000.
However, on 14th November 2014, his luck ran out when he tried to do the same on a man who realized his trick. The man arrested him and handed him over to Police at the Machine.
“We got him with 4 faulty ATM cards, all of Stanbic Bank, but with various particulars and he confessed that he has been doing this for some time,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango
Onyango added that Baguma will be charged with theft and that any time his file is to be sent to court.
