Nicholas John Okwir, formerly Managing Director of Housing Finance Bank has been appointed a member of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Board of Directors.
The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development appointed Mr. Okwir replacing Mr. Juma Kisaame who retired recently. Kisaame now serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Uganda Investment Authority (UIA).
Mr. Okwir’s appointment took immediate effect on May 18th, 2015 and he will be attending subsequent board meetings.
URA’s Commissioner Legal Services and Board affairs, Patience Rubagumya confirmed the appointment and gave a tribute in honour of the new board member.
“Mr. Okwir brings on board a wealth of experience from his banking background which will benefit URA. He is going to be the Chair of the Board Audit Committee of URA and we are confident that he will guide on corporate governance issues, stream line resolution of audit queries and guide management on how best to work with private sector since he is representing this sector,” Rubagumya observed.
Okwir holds a bachelor of Commerce degree from University of Nairobi and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (Strathmore College, Nairobi). He will run for a three year renewable contract as per the URA Act.
He joins other members of the URA Board namely; Gerald Ssendaula (Board Chairman), Keith Muhakanizi, Ambassador Julius Onen, Moses Kaggwa, Theodora Mondo Twongyirwe, and Doris Akol (Commissioner General).
