Residents of Rukiga on Monday spent the better part of the day celebrating the inauguration of the new district which however is headquartered in very dilapidated structures at Mparo.
The new district offices were previously the headquarters of Mparo Sub County.
The structure which was built in the 1950’s has cracks all over it and lacks some doors and windows.
Eddy Mugisha, the interim district vice chairman says the building has only six rooms and that most of them leak.
The structure, he says, needs immediate renovation because it poses danger to the workers.
Geoffrey Byamugisha, the Rukiga district interim chairman elect says however, that they will be improvising in the dilapidated offices until new offices are constructed.
He says that they want to start by opening of bank accounts for the district so that they can access funds for such things that need quick attention.
Herbert Kabafunzaki, the Rukiga county MP reassured the civil servants and residents that government has earmarked 1 billion shillings for construction of offices for the new district.
