Fresh details have emerged pinning Gilbert Bwana Arinaitwe on raping an 18 year old girl.
Arinaitwe was last week arrested and detained for the crime.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, police spokesperson Asan Kasingye said the victim and her mother had recorded statements with police.
“We are now waiting for the report from the doctor,” Kasingye told the news conference.
He also revealed sparingly, the circumstances under which Arinaitwe allegedly raped the teenage girl.
He said the suspect took advantage of the victim who had come with her mother to CID headquarters at Kibuli to report a case.
“He (Arinaitwe) disguised as willing to help her, took advantage and they exchange numbers,” Kasingye said, adding that Arinaitwe was in a right place at the wrong time.
After exchanging numbers, he says, no one knows what followed but the victim would later report to her mother that she had been raped.
The police publicist warned officers against engaging in unprofessional acts like these while on duty.
“Our officers should be the first to know that indulgence in crimes like rape is not acceptable.”
“Girls and women must be protected and our officers must be exemplary, “Kasingye urged.
Bwana Arinaitwe Gilbert came into limelight in 2011 after smashing the windscreen of opposition strongman Dr.Kizza Besigye, pepper-spraying him blind.
