The Minister for Water and Environment Hon. Sam Cheptoris has urged the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to expedite the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)Process in order for Uganda to attain a middle income status by 2020.
The minister made the call on Tuesday July 19th during his maiden visit to NEMA offices at the launch of the Albertine Graben Environment Monitoring Plan (AGEMP) and the Environmental Information Network Uganda Clearinghouse Online Portal.

Hon Cheptoris also called upon the authority to increase public education in order to enhance compliance to environmental laws and regulations.
He was accompanied by the State Minister for Water, Hon. Ronald Kibule & Hon. Dr. Gorretti Kitutu, the State Minister for Environment.
While launching the AGEMP, Dr Kitutu challenged NEMA Officials to be diligent and assertive in carrying out their duties. She pledged to support the authority in implementing its mandate as an institution.
The AGEMP provides the baseline information needed to monitor future changes in the environmental resources of the Albertine Grabben region, while the Clearing House website is an information portal for all the information, including the baseline report, maps, atlases and other critical information about the Albertine Grabben Region.
