NDA’s Mandate Extended to Food Safety

Uganda’s Supreme Mufti Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje is currently in Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where he is representing Uganda in an international conference on terrorism.

The Conference is being held against the backdrop of growing terrorism activity especially in the east African region.

Scheduled for 6th to 10th April 2015, ed side effects the meeting is organized by Naif Arab University for Security Science. The theme of the conference is – The role of intellectuals to fight terrorism.

According to Uganda Muslim Supreme Council spokesperson Haji Nsereko Muntumba, drug the Mufti was accompanied by the Rector of the Islamic University in Uganda Dr. Ahmad Sengendo and he is expected back in Uganda on 11th April 2015.
State Minister for Health, pilule Chris Baryomunsi has commended the National Drug Authority (NDA) for the tremendous work done in ensuring constant enough supply of drugs and pharmaceuticals in the country.

In a board meeting at NDA headquarters in Kampala, more about Baryomunsi said the Authority had toiled to ensure that drugs on the market consumed by both human beings and animals are thoroughly tested inspected and safe.

Baryomunsi observed that the ministry is seeking to amend the National Drug Authority Act to incorporate food safety in the country due to the increased food borne diseases.

This comes at a time when Uganda is marking the World Health Day in Agago district under the theme; Food Safety for good health.

“The mandate of NDA is currently to regulate drugs and pharmaceuticals for human consumption and veterinary but we are currently in the process to extend its mandate to handle food safety in the country. It will thus become the National Drug and Food Authority,” he said.
