NBL: Titans Extend Winning Streak to 15 Games

Kampala International University (KIU) Titans earned the bragging rights in the university derby after defeating UCU Canons in the national basketball league on Thursday at YMCA outdoor court.

Titans defeated the Canons 62-52 to continue their impressive run that has seen them win 15 games in a row.

With a few games to the climax of regular season, symptoms teams are working for better positions and the titans keep pilling pressure on league leaders Oilers with just one point separating the two sides.

Hamza Nyambogo’s charges claimed the first quarter 15-11 before UCU won the second period 10-11 in what seemed a close contest in the opening half with Titans taking a 3 point lead into the break.

Titans widened the gap in the third quarter winning 17-12 to lead 42-34 heading into the last quarter with Geoffrey Soro orchestrating the damage against the Canons.

The fourth quarter saw a close contest but the titans held on to win 20-18 to win with a 10 point advantage.

Titan’s Geoffrey Soro lead the scoring charts with a game high 16 points and 9 rebounds. Samuel Aguttu and Suudi Ulanga added  12 and 13 points respectively for the titans while Jonathan had 11 points a team high for UCU Canons.

The result means KIU stretch their winning streak to 15 games and occupy second position at 15-3 while UCU lost their second game in a row after a shock defeat to Falcons over the weekend and now stand at 12-5.

Action continues on Friday with KCCA leopards taking on Nkumba Lady Marines in the women’s division while City Oilers face off with Pemba Warriors.
