Sunday August 6

Nkumba Lady Marines 49-45 A1 Challenge.

Nkumba Lady Marines took a 49-45 victory against A1 Challenge to pick their 5th win of the campaign in a  loosely contested affair played out at the MTN Indoor Arena in Lugogo.

It promised to be an entertaining face-off as both teams were tied on 12 points prior to the game day, but it never lived to the expectations.

Nkumba’s Brenda Ekone was the big difference for both sides as she led the way with 29 points, Stella Nanfuka and Victoria Ntale scored 11 each for Eddy Oumo’s Challenge.

The lady Mariners who started on court with Nanjala Diana, Esther Apolot, Brenda Ekone, Beca Aanyu and Fina Busingye, led from the first quarter up to the last buzzer as the Challengers failed to get out of their blocks.

Julius Lutwama’s Lady Mariners held a 3 point lead after the first quarter before taking 26-17 and 36-27 scoreline leads in second and third quarter respectively.

In the final quarter, Ekone scored 8 of the 13 points Nkumba garnered in the last quarter to seal the victory.

A1 Challenge who had won 5 games before this encounter has now lost 3 games and will face off with JKL Lady Dolphins to complete their Round one menu.
