Ladies: Weatherhead 2-0 Deliverance
The Round one for the 2017 National Hockey League was concluded on the weekend with all the 3 rescheduled games which were postponed from their earlier dates.
Ladies team Weatherhead had two games, playing a game on Saturday and the other on Sunday.
They were shipped in 4 unanswered goals against Wananchi on Saturday as League’s top scorer Doreen Mbabazi scored a hat-trick with Doreen Asiimwe notching in the other.
On Sunday, Weatherhead returned on the field a rejuvenated side and a brace from Siddy Alum before halftime was enough to give them their 3 deserved points in the only game played on the day.
The win left Weatherhead in second place on the table with 3 points below leaders and still unbeaten Wanainchi.
Deliverance Church remained 3rd with just 2 wins followed by Kampala Hockey club and Rhinos in that order.
In the men’s league, Rockets Hockey Club lost 1-2 to Weatherhead as the former suffered their 4th consecutive loss of the season in a rescheduled game played on Saturday.
Vincent Kasasa opened the scoresheet for Weatherhead but Shafic Muleme levelled matters for the Rockets before Benon Lukyamuzi got the winner for Weatherhead in the 50th minute.
Rockets’ Wycliff Kiyini who picked two yellows in the game has been suspended by the Hockey league and will therefore miss the team’s next match in round two.
The loss left Rockets seated rock bottom of the 5 team log without a win as Kampala Hockey Club are on the summit with 12 points.
