Mzee Byanyima himself was a staunch member of the Democratic Party, and formerly its national Chairman. He was also the former head teacher of Mbarara High School.
The father of 6, passed away at the age 97.
Mzee Byanyima was a foster father and provided shelter to young President Yoweri Museveni when he was still school-going. He also looked after and provided support to the now deceased mother of the President esteri Kokundeka.
But unlike his daughter Winnie, who served for several years under Museveni’s NRM regime, the former statesman remained opposed to the regime to the time of his death.
His wife Gertrude Byanyima succumbed to Stroke about a decade ago, at Mulago Hospital.
