President Yoweri Museveni has advised members of parliament of his ruling National Resistance Movement to capitalize on the accomplishments of government, to lure their constituents into supporting the age limit amendment bill.
The President advised the MPs to preach the amendment of Article 102(b) to remove the presidential age limit, by citing government infrastructure and other development projects as well as the different success stories of the NRM.
Museveni was today meeting the NRM parliamentary caucus in a bid to, “develop better strategies to popularize the removal of age limit.”
A number of legislators, openly told the president that their lives are in danger and are living under threats over the Raphael Magyezi bill.
Mbale Woman MP, Connie Galiwango told the president that she and her family were living under constant threats ever since she openly supported the bill and that she had since moved her family to a safer place,” noted
She added that she was advised to introduce the matter to her constituents and that when she did, the reaction from the people was very negative,”
“Somebody called on radio that they were coming to burn my house,” she said.
The MP told us after the meeting, that the president in response decided to teach her how to handle such situation.
“He has told us to tell the people the achievements that government has made over time,” said the MP.
“He believes that once people get to appreciate the achievements, then they will appreciate the removal of age limit from the constitution.
