President Yoweri Museveni is expected in Kisoro this week to attend a function organized by local leaders to among others celebrate the reappointment of the “son of the soil,” Gen Edward Kale Kayihura at the helm of the Uganda Police Force.
Kayihura is serving yet another three year term as the Inspector General of Police after his contract was renewed by the president in May this year.
The celebrations being organized by Kisoro district leadership are slated for October 14th 2017 at the Bufumbira Saza Grounds in Kisoro municipality.
According to Police spokesperson Asan Kasingye, the event will also be celebrating the district’s accomplishments, as well as the life of Kayihura’s father John Karekyezi.
“I received an invitation from the Kisoro district chairman for the event which will be celebrating three things in one,” Kasingye told us, clarifying that the police are not involved in the organizing of the event.
Kasingye said the locals will be celebrating the IGP’s father John Kerekeyezi for his contribution toward the country’s independence, as well as Kayihura’s recent reappointment as IGP.
The 61 year old, having taken over police command from Gen Edward Katumba Wamala in 2005, is currently the country’s longest serving IGP.
