President Museveni has challenged local leaders in Busoga sub-region to vigorously sensitize farmers about the on-going government program of Operation Wealth Creation to stop poverty in their homesteads.
Museveni made the remarks Thursday while officially opening the 24th National Agriculture and Trade show in Jinja at the source of the Nile.
He said government has increased funds for the program to enable farmers boost household incomes.
Museveni asked local leaders to utilize the available resources to sensitize farmers on how to enhance the quality of their yields.
He praised farmers for applying technology and fertilizers on their which he said the people f Busoga should emulate.
President Museveni has expressed his fear over land fragmentation especially in rural areas where land is subdivided for production.
Busoga is considered one of the poorest areas in the country.
Led by the Minister for agriculture Vincent Ssempijja and National Farmers Federation chairman Charles Ogwang led Museveni on a tour of the stalls at the tradeshow.
