Appearing before Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate Esther Nahirya on Monday afternoon, State Prosecutor Esther Nalungi sought a short adjournment to enable authorities conclude their investigations.

Prosecution alleges that on April 12 while at Nkrumah Hall in Makerere University through mob justice, the accused killed David Ojok, a student of Engineering after mistaking him for a thief.

Ojok had visited Nkrumah Hall to collect money from a student before his being mistaken for a thief and killed in an act of mob justice.

The blood-spattered incident drew worldwide condemnation.

Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof. Ddumba Sentamu later announced that the institution would “install more CCTV cameras, deploy more security personnel, involve students in community policing as well as put in place adequate street lighting to improve the security situation” at the campus.

The University’s Vice Guild President Phiona Nyamutoro condemned the mob justice, saying the Guild advocates for behavioural change.

“Makerere is not a training ground for hooligans and murderers. No individual should take another’s life. We ask government to help with the security at campus. Halls of residence should be given guards,” she observed.

He served in the Uganda Police Force before joining active Politics. He managed to rise up to the office of NRM leadership in Bulumbi and Chairman LC3 Bulumbi Sub County, positions he held up to the time of his death.

The President visited the family members on Sunday evening at their Home in Bulumbi Sub-county in Busia district.

The President laid a wreath on the grave of the late Baraza Esengedo before having a private conversation with the family including Barasa’s two widows Joyce and Jane Esengedo at their home in Bulumbi, Busia district.

President Museveni who visited the family after addressing a rally at Masafu village, Bwanda sub-county, Busia district, told the people who gathered for the funeral rites that he came to commiserate with the family over the loss of their loved one.

He described him as a hardworking and loyal leader.
