President Yoweri Museveni has pitched camp in Kagoma County to rally support for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer in the area MP by-elections, ampoule Moses Muwanika Balyomu.
According to NRM Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba, Museveni will spend two days in the constituency, during which he will address four rallies.
NRM’s Walyomu who is running for the second time was thrown out of parliament in March 2017 following a ruling by court presided over by three Justices; Fredrick Engonda -Ntende, Paul Mugamba and Alfonse Owiny-Dollo which annulled his election over voter bribery.
The justices overturned a decision of Jinja High Court that had rejected evidence of voter bribery against Walyomu which had been brought against him by his opponent Alex Brandon Kintu.
They ruled that Kintu brought satisfactory evidence that on January 3rd, 2016, Walyomu bribed a community of voters with 500, 000 shillings through the leaders of Mawoito mosque.
Court also found out that there was intimidation of witnesses with arrest and prosecution by MP Walyomu in Jinja court if they had proceeded to testify against him.
Walyomu is running against three other candidates including FDC’s Timothy Lusala Batuwa, Muhammad Bizimack Bidondole and Alex Brandon Kintu, both of whom are independents.
According to Jinja District NRM Chairperson, Museveni will Monday address rallies at Bulungo Primary School in Butengo Sub County and Budondo Primary School in Budondo Sub County.
On Tuesday, Museveni will address a rally at Bwera Primary School before proceeding to Butagaya Sub County where he will address the final rally.
The elections are scheduled to be held on Thursday May 11th.
