Murmurs As FDC’s Jack Sabiiti Represents PM Rugunda at Function

Prime Minister Dr David Ruhakana Rugunda has described the fallen former Rukiga County chief James Katabazi Mitabiro as an educationist that Kabale district and the country would greatly miss.

Katabazi passed away early this week in Kampala after battling hypertension and high blood pressure.

He was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Rushebeya Mparo Rwamucucu Sub County Kabale district and survived by a widow Florence Batabara Katabazi and 17 children.

Dr. Rugunda at the service was represented by Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] former Treasurer Hon. Jack Saabiiti.

Sabiiti is the area [Rukiga County] Member of Parliament and was recently elected the FDC district treasurer for Kabale in the just concluded party grassroots elections.

The announcement that Sabiiti was representing Hon Rugunda an NRM leader raised eyebrows as some mourners murmured about the former’s commitment to his opposition party.

Sabiiti enthusiasm for his party observably dwindled since 2012 when Gen Mugisha Muntu was elected President of FDC. Indeed 2014 he resigned his position as the party secretary General.

Meanwhile there was excitement the burial function, when Sabiiti introduced Lt. Col. Anthony Kyakabaale the former UPDF fugitive who recently returned from exile after being pardoned by the President.

Kyakabale was among the leaders of the rebel group Peoples Redemption Army which was quelled by the UPDF in the Democratic Republic of Congo, before he fled to Sweden where he lived for more than a decade.
