The Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the May 25th establishment of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963.
On this day, leaders of 30 of the 32 independent African states signed a founding agreement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and the day has been retained to celebrate African Unity.
The OAU was later in 2002 transformed into the Africa Union (AU) which currently comprises 54 member states.
