Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has donated three computers and a projector to the Inmates University Study Centre at Luzira Upper Prisons.
The donations which were delivered by Prof. Waswa Balunywa, online the principal of MUBS on Thursday May 4th are “Part of MUBS’ Social Corporate Responsibility to rehabilitate inmates in order to make them better citizens when they return to society”.
MUBS has been running a Certificate and Diploma programme in Entrepreneurship and Small Business management with the Prisons Service since 2009.
According to Balunywa, store “Majority of Luzira inmates who have graduated under the MUBS Programme have transformed from being society rejects to becoming useful citizens in the country”.
The decision to go to Luzira, this site he says, was based on the need to empower inmates so that when they leave the prison, they are able to consider starting a business as part of their rehabilitation.
The Director Correctional Services Akena Samuel received the items on behalf of the Commissioner General of Prisons.
The event was also honored by Moses Kakungulu, the acting Director Cooperation and Cooperate Affairs; Regional Prisons Commander CP Wilson Magomu and ACP Celestine Tumwesigye, Officer In charge Upper Prison.
