The Supreme Mufti of Uganda His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has lauded Turkey for its continued cooperation and support to Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC).
Mubajje said this on Tuesday while addressing over 250 Imams from Kampala Muslim District at the UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala.
The Imams were invited by the UMSC Secretary for Social Services Mr. Muhammad Ali Aluma to collect Iftar Packages donated to them by Diyanet Foundation from Turkey.
The Mufti said there are currently over 100 Uganda students pursuing studies in various Turkish schools and universities.
The Mufti who was flanked by the Deputy Ambassador of Turkey in Uganda His Excellency Volkan Sahinkaya assured him that UMSC is partnering with only organisations that are in the good books of the Turkish government.
On his side, the Turkish Deputy Ambassador commended the Mufti in particular and Ugandan Muslims in general for standing with Turkey in both good and trying moments.
He said the 1300 Iftar Packages to Imams are not a one off event but part of the continued assistance that Turkey offers to Ugandan Muslim brothers and sisters.
“This is not just short term aid; it is a continuous assistance and a demonstration of brotherhood and solidarity to our Ugandan Muslim brothers and sisters.
He was accompanied by a delegation of Turkish officials from the embassy that included Mr. Lokman Arslan – the Religious Attaché at the Embassy of Turkey in Uganda.
The UMSC Chairman Dr. Abdulkadir Balonde and other UMSC management officials were also present.
The Mufti, Dr. Balonde and the Deputy Ambassador later handed over the Iftar packages to the Imams.
