As a precursor the Prime Minister, Dr Rugunda arrived at the venue to preside over the pre-launch where he was received by Nsereko.

The activity is seen by political observers as the launch of Nsereko’s 2016 Kampala Central MP elections.

The Controversial legislator started off his reign in Parliament in 2011 by criticising government policies and engaging in acts that undermine the party chairman, President Museveni.

Attempts to suspend him from the party were blocked by the Supreme Court.

His decision to invite Museveni for the sports expo could be aimed at showing the electorate how he has reformed ahead of the elections.

Celebrated kickboxer Moses Golola, his nemesis UPDF’s Titus Tugume, renowned artists including Palasso of the Amaaso fame and their crew, and Members of Parliament Mathias Kasamba (Kakuuto North, Rakai district) and Hatwib Katoto (Katerera County, Rubirizi district), among others spiced the fete.

“I am happy that the chairman of FDC (opposition Forum for Democratic Change) is here,” Dr Rugunda said.

“Political parties are good but first and foremost we are all Ugandans and we must work together for the progress and development of Uganda.”

Rugunda hailed Uganda’s big sports names such as John Akii Bua, Stephen Kiprotich, Dorcus Inzikuru, Davis Kamoga and Sseruwagi for doing the country proud when they earned gold medals, hailing games and sports for promoting quality.

“If you are a poor performer in sports you will be knocked out and everyone will be watching you, and you will have nowhere to complain,” Dr Rugunda noted.

Nsereko appealed to the Ministry of Education and Sports to increase sports funding, including financial rewards to celebrated sports men and women as impetus for encouraging upcoming talent.

“The state of sports in Uganda today is a little bit wanting,” he observed. “However we cannot say that Uganda has not done well.”
