MP Magyezi Speaks Out on Upcountry Home Attack

MP Raphael Magezi tabling his Constitutional Amendment Bill earlier this week

Igara East Member of Parliament Raphael Magyezi has described as fake news allegations that his banana plantation has been cut down by residents protesting his spearheading of the lifting of the age limit for the president from the Constitution.

Reports that circulated on social media yesterday indicated that Magyezi’s plantation in Kyamuhunga Town Council, Bushenyi District, was cut down but the legislator insists all is well.

“That is fake news. My banana plantations have not been destroyed.  People are quiet around my home but very vigilant. So nothing is going to happen to my home, I am very confident,” he said in an interview.

Bushenyi region police spokesperson Martial Tumusiime also dismissed reports of the destruction of the MPs’ property.

“I would have received reports if something like that happened. We shall let you know if we find out more details but all that is just rumours,” Tumusiime said.

Magyezi also defended his tabling of the age limit Bill, urging that whoever has a divergent view has the right to propose it.

“I am doing my work as an MP. This is my view. Whoever doesn’t agree with it can bring his proposal but it is not that I have brought chaos to the country,” he said.
