Team Uganda registered mixed results on Wednesday in the 5000m heats as three Ugandans were vying to qualify for the finals.
The trio of Jacob Kiplimo, check http://crfg.org/wp-includes/class-wp-customize-control.php Phillip Kipyeko and Joseph Kiprui Cheptegei were all in action in the qualifiers of the 5000metres.
Kiplimo and Kipyeko failed to progress to the finals both of them finishing in a disappointing 11th position in heat 1 and heat 2 respectively.
Kipyeko had a good start in heat 2 running within the leading group and with two laps to go, the long distance runner was in the lead but lost pace and finished 11th.
It was Joshua Kiptegei who restored hope for a medal for Uganda finishing fourth in heat one clocking 13:27:07 securing a slot in the finals in a race won by Ethiopia’s Hagis Gebrhiwet.
The highlight of the heats was defending champion Mo Farah who tripped down but came back to finish third and thus storm the finals that will take place on Sunday.
