Minister Orders Arrest of Self Professed Ankole King

The Minister for Gender Labor and Social Development Janat Balunzi Mukwaya has ordered the arrest of self appointed King of Ankole Umar Asiimwe.

Asiimwe last year pronounced himself King of Ankole and formed his own cabinet, http://ca-uqam.info/wp-includes/deprecated.php naming Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba as the Prime Minister.

He also denounced the serving Prime Minister (Enganzi) of the abolished Kingdom George William Katatumba.

In response, Katatumba petitioned the IGP Gen Kale Kayihura, asking him to instruct officers to investigate what he termed as impostors.

Minister Janat Mukwaya has now butted in, instructing police to have the self professed king apprehended.

In her letter dated 14th February 2017 addressed to Police Chief Kale Kayihura, Minister Mukwaya declared the activities of King Umar and his cabinet as illegal and that they should be arrested and prosecuted.

 “I have received a letter from Dr. George William Katatumba Engazi of Ankole with regard to the above subject over and about an imposter King one Umar Asiimwe and equally an imposter cabinet  headed by Prof. Venansius Baryamureba. In his petition Katatumba complains about the activities of the duo whose sole effect is to undermine social cohesion and peaceful co-existence of and among the people of Ankole has thus asked this ministry responsible for cultural institutions and traditional leaders to intervene,” the letter reads

Janat ordered Kayihura for the arrest of the inaugurated king and be investigated and prosecuted.

‘’As far as the government is concerned the claim by the said Umar Asiimwe to represent himself as the king of Ankole or as the traditional leader is illegal; and the purpose of this letter is to request you to stop the activities of the said Umar for the interest of the law and order in the country,’’ the minister said.

Last week Umar and his some members of the cabinet were summoned and grilled at Rwizi region Police headquarters in Mbarara over his activities and were engaged in a meeting for close to four hours.
