Nyombi was among some of the top ministers in Cabinet who were defeated last night.

They include Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire, Vincent Nyanzi, Tarsis Kabwegyere, Asumani Kiyingi and Daudi Migereko.

Other senior NRM figures floored in the polls include Michael Mawanda, Kabakumba Matsiko, Nuru Byamukama, Margaret Kiboijana, Emmanuel Dombo, Sulaiman Madada, Sylvia Namabidde, Steven Tashobya, Sezi Mbaguta and Kiddhu Makubuya

In his final remarks, Nyombi pointed to a possible departure from the political scene following the humiliating defeat.

“An old dog can’t learn new skills.  I am comfortable.  I won’t be buried.  There other things to do outside politics,” he observed.
