The Chief of Defense Forces Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala has revealed on behalf of the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) that the legacy of the late General Aronda Nyakairima will forever live within the national army for generations to come.

Gen. Aronda Nyakairima had served in the army for 33years since 1982 when he joined the National Resistance Army Liberation war.
At the time of his death he was the country’s Interior Minister, under which docket he was able deliver the country’s first National Identify Card project.
At a public lecture held in his memory at Makerere University on Monday, the army commander Gen Wamala hailed the fallen soldier for establishing the Wazalendo SACCO, the country’s biggest SACCO that has transformed the lives of UPDF soldiers.
At the memorial lecture held under the theme Heroes Never Die, Gen. Katumba described the late Aronda as a great team leader, determined, God fearing, humane person who cared for the country’s well being , one who took the army as his family and a very cool person.
The lecture was organized By National Association of Youth Entrepreneurs Uganda to honor the work and life of Gen Aronda.
“Aronda was a very cool and composed person even where there were a lot of uncertainties; he would give you a cool response. Even at war, when you consulted him he would tell you that you will make it because you have been trained,” Gen.Katumba said.
At the event, where President Museveni was expected but didn’t turn up, Linda Aronda the wife of the deceased told the audience that her husband always took his family and country first.
“My husband was a family man, father, friend, leader, enthusiast, calm, down to earth, well seasoned soldier, compassionate, humane, patriotic and very respectfully to all people young and old,” she said.
The ceremony was graced by UPDF officials, family, friends, former workmates , Bush war comrades and many other people who offered tribute to Aronda’s great works.
