Mbarara’s Waste Turns into Jobs


The Uganda Plastic Manufacturers and Recyclers Association last week launched a plastic recycling center in Mbarara as a way of ensuring proper waste disposal management.

Kenneth Tumusiime the managing director Pla-waste Consultants Group of Companies revealed at the launch that the industry will be crashing 10 tons of plastic wastes that include plastic bottles, this web basins, healing polythene papers among others per day.

Tumusiime said the company will employ over 1000 workers on top of helping in conserving the environment to bring cleanness in the western town.

The chief guest Doctor Barigye Celestine, the executive director Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital who represented the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health advised the heads of the company emphasize good working conditions for the employees, for instance by providing them with gloves.

The function was held at Mbarara industrial park in Kakiika division in Mbarara municipality where different stake holders in the district including NEMA officials attended.
