Mbarara Student Arrested for Conning Teachers

Police in Mbarara is holding a 30 year old man alleged to have conned Shs 1million from teachers.

The arrested is Alex Tumukunde, this site a money lender pursuing Masters Degree in Business at Bishop Stuart University.

The suspect is said to have lent Shs 500,000 to Michael Bangi, and then turned against him.

Bangi, a teacher at Rwansinga S.S. says he paid back the loan with 20% interest but the suspect claimed he was never repaid.

The accused also gave a loan of Shs. 290,000 in 2015 to Mark Asingwire a Primary Teacher at Rwentojo P/S.

Asingwire says he gave the suspect his ATM card as a security but the latter used it to withdraw money from his account totaling 1.2 million shillings.

The Mbarara RDC Capt Martha Asiimwe took on the matter when approached and the suspect was arrested this morning.

The RDC condemned the act and noted that the suspect was operating as a money lender without a license.

 The RDC said the operation has been launched to track down and arrest all illegal money lenders in the area.
