Mbarara: Police Officer Arrested in Armed Robbery

Police in Mbarara are holding 3 assailants who were involved in a shootout in Mbarara town on 15 February 2016.

The group of four gunmen attacked Prof. Hosia Muhanguzi and his worker Agatha Tukamushaba while they were going to deposit a huge amount of money in Mbarara’s Crane Bank branch along High Street.

The gunmen made away with the box containing Shs. 110million and shot dead one person as they escaped.

Police has since been hunting for the other three and last week one was picked in Busabala and the other two at Isabella Bar in Kampala.

The others are Edison Keish from Rukungiri and Didas Tindyebwa a resident of Kamwenge district.

The Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson Vincent Ssekate told journalists yesterday that a police officer attached to Mbarara Police hired a gun to the group and his girlfriend working with the victim (Prof. Hosea’s) Hosma Bookshop planned and coordinated the raid.

He said the two (the officer and his lover) are still at large and efforts to arrest them are ongoing.
