Mbarara: Museveni To Open Fruit Factory

The fruit factory empoyees 100 workers and supports Operation Wealth Creation farmers

President Yoweri Museveni is expected tomorrow Friday at the launch of a juice producing factory in Mbarara municipality.

This was revealed today by the director Agro Health Products Uganda Limited Dr. Nathan Karema, price http://citrusresearch.org/wp-admin/includes/upgrade.php at the factory located 7miles on Mbarara-Kikagati road.

Dr. Karema who doubles as Director Mbarara Community Hospital told Chimpreports that the President picked interest in the project when he learnt that it’s related to the Operation Wealth Creation.

The factory buys raw materials from farmers who receive seeds from OWC.

The Shs. 3Billion factory has existed for one year and its products are already certified by UNBS.

“The president has been talking about improving household income; this factory comes in not only to answer to this but also his call of for value addition” Dr. Karema said

The director however, pointed out one of their key challenges as lack of sufficient capital to purchase all the fruit brought in by farmers. He said he will put this concern to the president.

The factory employs 106 people who include a number of graduates.

Kerema says they now produce 90000 bottles per day but hopes to push this to 200,000 before going into exports, adding that he has already established partnerships in Rwanda and Kenya.
