Mbarara High School’s administration is considering putting up a monument to immortalize their former leader Mzee Boniface Byanyima who passed away yesterday in Kampala.
The school headmaster Benon Twinomujuni made the revelation today while speaking to press.
The deceased was one of the first native teachers at the school back in the 1950s.
“Even our President (Yoweri Museveni) spent a long time at his house when he was expelled from here after for beating a white man’s dog. He went on and joined Ntare School, link ” he said.
Twinomujuni admitted however, that the school doesn’t possess much record on the late Byanyima, considering that it was attacked and destroyed during the 1979 ouster of high handed President Idi Amin.
The Ankole Diocese which runs the school, according to the head teacher, has put up a museum and is trying to get records of the school’s former students of such great importance.
“It is now apparent that we will need to put up a monument for the late Mzee Byanyima so that he lives on here; if funds permit us,” he said.
“We shall seek guidance and solicit funds from the relevant authorities to put up a monument for him,” he said
