Mbarara: Farmers Get New Coffee Huller

The new coffee huller can process over a tonne of coffee per hour according to RDC Martha Asiimwe

Government, approved utilizing a loan from the African Development Bank gas stated handing out coffee hullers to help farmers in different sub counties.

Coffer hullers are machines used to remove the husk which envelops the seed of coffee, to produce clean coffee seeds.

Mbarara RDC Capt. Martha Asiimwe made revelation while launching one in Rwera cell; in Kagongi sub county Kashari north of Mbarara district.

The Shs. 505Million Machine was handed over yesterday to farmers in Kagongi under their association Kagongi Coffee Cooperative Association (KCCA), who since 2015, had been complaining about its delay. Some said they had been travelling to Ibanda to process their coffee.

The new machine grinds up to 1000 kgs of coffee per hour.

Speaking at the hand over, RDC Asiimwe asked farmers to scale up production in order to meet its capacity.

The RDC also appealed to farmers to bring quality coffee that meets international market standards.

“It’s true Uganda is losing the international coffee market because most of you farmers harvest dirty and unready coffee,” she said.

“The government has spent a lot of money in installing this machine so you must own it and make sure you feed it with enough coffee” she said
