Uganda Premier League newly promoted side, Mbarara City FC intensified their preparations ahead of their maiden engagement in the top tier league.
On Friday, Mbarara City FC had a fundraising game against traditional giants Express FC at Kakyeka stadium in Mbarara Municipality.
In a game watched by a mammoth crowd, the Ankole lions piped Express 1-0 courtesy of Brian Aheebwa’s penalty.
The game had several activities that included unveiling new players, launching the new kit abd fundraising funds to support the team ahead of the new season.
The new recruits included; Swedi Satugobo, Faluku Samari, Saidi Byekwaso, Asuman Harishe Kihogo from BUL FC among others.
There was also a curtain raiser match between Members of Parliament and the Mbarara district leaders.
Club chairman Mwine Mpaka who also doubles as the western youth MP committed his support and indicated Mbarara City FC will transform to a giant team.
At the end of the day, over Shs 20M was collected in the fundraising drive while 50M was pledged.
Minister of state for Sports, Hon. Charles Bakkabulindi who represented His Excellency, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni delivered the 10M package from the President.
Bakkabulindi also promised that government will help in renovating Kakyeka stadium.
