Mbarara, Chinese City Sign Partnership Agreement

Teams from China and Mbarara after agreement signing at Igongo on Sunday

Mbarara Municipality at the close of last week signed a partnership agreement with the Chinese City of Sanya in the Hainan which is hoped to kick start working relations between the two cities.

The agreement was signed on Sunday by the Ambassador of Uganda in Guangzhou China, healing Mr. Solomon Rutega who led the delegation from China at Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara.

On behalf of Mbarara, case the agreement was signed by Mayor Robert Kakyebezi while on the Chinese side, the vice-governor of Hainan Province Mr. Kang Yao Hong and Ms Chen Jianjiao the deputy director in the CCPC party in the Hainan province.

The agreement according to the officials is aimed at promoting people-to-people friendly contacts and economic interflow between the two sides in fields of tourism, agriculture, trade, economy, infrastructure, culture, education among others.

Speaking at the function, the vice-governor of Hainan Kang Yao Hong said the agreement comes after President Yoweri Museveni’s visit to China last year.

On his part, Lord Mayor Kakyebezi pledged total support and enhancement of the relationship between the sister cities in aligning, revitalizing and creating mutual benefits to promote economic and trade interflow between the two countries.

Chimpreports understands that a delegation from Mbarara led by the mayor will soon fly to China in October to cement the relationship.

The delegation will also include officials from Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
