Police in Mbarara are hunting for a group of assailants who waylaid and kidnapped for hours a businesswoman in the municipality in an attempted robbery.

The group of 5 people forced her to surrender her Toyota Raum number UAT 665N and all the money she had.

“They drove me toward Isingiro road and turned into bushes somewhere in Biharwe,” she told reporters. “For fear of my life, I called my husband Topher Mwebaze who sent them 4 million.”
The husband after sending the money got in touch with police who started tracking the assailants.
One of them, who was sent to collect the money at Delta Petrol Station was shot and killed on spot by police after he tried to resist arrest. In the exchange, one police officer was injured by a stray bullet.
When the others waited for their colleague in vain, they tied her up and dumped her in the bushes and left with the car.
