Mbabazi to Grace Mao Homecoming in Gulu

DP President Norbert Mao is expected to be welcomed in Gulu town tomorrow

Police in Kisoro are investigating circumstances under which a 32 year old man was lynched by Kabami Secondary School students.

The deceased was operating a shop at Serere trading center where the two girls reportedly bought packed porridge and immediately complained of stomachache.

They were rushed to Mutolere hospital where they were admitted and later discharged.

The Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate says that on Sunday, the girls complained of the same problem which compelled the father to report a food poisoning case at Kisoro police station.

On hearing this, the students went after the shopkeeper and after a long chase, the murdered him near a church at Kibumba parish in Murora sub county.

Maate says police is still trying to pin point the suspects.

 

 
Officials from the opposition coalition The Democratic Alliance have said they are considering taking  legal action against the  Electoral Commission for what they termed as  interfering with the electoral process.

The Electoral Commission chairman Eng. Badru Kiggundu on Friday morning announced that the dates for nomination of presidential candidates had been changed from October 5 -6  to    November 3 – 4, order http://cnafinance.com/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/class.jetpack-client-server.php giving candidates only 3 months to traverse  all the 112 districts in Uganda for campaigns.

“The decision to extend presidential nomination dates is our (EC) decision. No one dictates to us. Nomination fees of presidential candidates have also been revised from shs 8million to shs 20million. Candidates are therefore advised to pay the balance before nomination day, try ” Kiggundu told journalists.

TDA spokesperson Wafula Oguttu says however, visit that it was wrong for the election body to adjust the nomination dates on top of increasing the nomination fees for presidential candidates which he insisted is against the law.

There is also a feeling that the ruling NRM party’s unpreparedness  for the 2016 elections was the reason for the EC’s adjustments to the program.

The party is yet to hold its Delegates conference to pick its flag bear.

“The incompetence and disorganization of the NRM is influencing the whole electoral process in the country which is wrong. The process had been discussed and later gazetted. Why change it now without consulting anyone,” Oguttu wondered at the TDA headquarters in Naguru on Friday afternoon.

“This action by the Electoral Commission has to be challenged legally and other possible ways.”

The officials from the opposition coalition also condemned the increase of the nomination fees from Shs8 Million to Shs 20 Million which they say is intended to kick some people out of the race.

They further castigated the decision by the election body and the Uganda Communication Commission to suspend SMS and social media as platforms for campaigns saying it was uncalled for.

“It is a sign of fear by the ruling NRM party as it is interrupting the gazetted electoral process. We are soon sitting to litigate this,” said FDC chairperson Wasswa Birigwa.
Opposition Democratic Party (DP) is set to hold a grand homecoming and thanksgiving fete for its President Norbert Mao in the Northern district of Gulu.

Officials in DP have told Chimpreports that a delegation of party leaders and members will be joining locals in Gulu to thank God for the life of their president.

The DP president served as the Gulu Municipality Member of Parliament for 10 years before he was elected district [LC5] Chairman in 2006.

The event we understand will be held at the Kaunda grounds in Gulu town tomorrow Saturday October 3.

“Our president has gone through a lot in the recent past. He told us that the event will commence with prayers in the morning and thereafter a mass rally will be held at Kaunda grounds.

Former Prime Minister and 2016 presidential hopeful AmamaMbabazi is expected to attend the homecoming and also address the rally in the evening.

This will be the first rally Mbabazi will address after being nominated by eight members of The Democratic Alliance (TDA).
